Nice Ironstone brown
I dropped my wife Debbie off at a birthday party in Boyertown and decided to go across the street to Ironstone creek. I found a nice sized hole and cast upstream. I caught a little brown trout and threw it back. On my next cast , I caught another small brown followed up by a creek chub. I still had a few minutes before I had to pick up Debbie so I cast further up stream and caught this twelve inch brown. I had a hunch the Ironstone would have wild browns in it and I was happy that the hunch panned out.

I think I’m on to something.
So I went back over to Swamp Creek behind the Bechtelsville post office. On my second cast I caught this nice rainbow. I was just below the dam which is the dividing line for Swamp Creek being classified as a Class A Wild Trout fishery. I’m thinking the state must have stocked in this area. Before I caught the palomino a couple of weeks ago, I had never seen any rainbows here only wild browns. Interesting 🤔

I’m really confused!!!
Ok where did this palomino come from? On my way home from Walmart in Bechtelsville today I decided to make a quick stop at Swamp Creek behind the post office. When I walked down to the creek, I saw a nice brown trout take off (unfortunately he saw me first). Then I realized there was a palomino swimming around in the creek. I threw my spinner past it and he hit it on the way back. I can’t figure out where this fish came from. The creek isn’t stocked upstream from where I caught it and I don’t think it could have swam from anywhere downstream where they do stock. The closest stocked area is quite a way downstream and there are a lot of obstacles in the way. It’s definitely been a strange (but good) day of fishing.
Huge rainbow???
Took another trip up the West Branch of the Perkiomen this morning with my big sis. We stopped back at the dam on Camp Mensch Mill and caught this brown. We then headed up to the bridge at Huff’s Church. I saw some decent sized browns and on my third cast under the bridge I caught a 20” five pound male rainbow. I had to pull him up by hand. When I lifted him onto the bridge my 4 lb test broke. I was trying to get my sister’s attention but she had walked back to the car and I didn’t have any cell service to call or text her. I got the rainbow back into the water as quickly as possible. Hopefully he’s going to be ok. I’ve never seen a rainbow anywhere along the West Branch before but obviously they are reproducing in this section of the stream.

Nice Brown
I took a ride with my Big sis up to Bally Rocks. I caught a little brown trout and saw a few others. Then we got back in the car and went further upstream to the dam at Camp Mensch Mill rd. I made a few casts above the dam and didn’t see anything but then I cast below the dam and caught another small brown. On my second cast below the dam I caught this 11” brown. I had to get back to the house but plan to investigate this area some more while on vacation.

Trout season opener
Once the rain cleared up around 1pm, I decided it was a good time to go over to the West Branch of the Perkiomen and do some fishing. I was testing out some new equipment and caught some nice browns around the bridge on Rte 100. Then I went over to Swamp creek in Bechtelsville behind the post office. I had one strike but missed it. Overall it was a good opening day. I should be posting a lot more this week because I’m on vacation.
